McKinnie, a long-time supporter of the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, reached out to Gonzalez as both had converted their sports beverage plant investments into production of KelPure (Gonzalez) and United Sanitizer Alliance (McKinnie) hand sanitizing products.
The two pivoted their business models to help during the Covid-19 pandemic and beyond. Kelmerica, the parent of ProKel Mobility, has diversified to provide personal protection equipment to those in need. Together these two have donated hand sanitizer nationwide, benefiting over 15 non-profit agencies including nursing homes, hospitals, shelters, food banks and first responders. To date over $6.9 million has been raised nationwide for Covid-19 relief by way of the NFL, its affiliates, current/past players, business partners and individuals.
“We see every life, city and town as important during these trying times and are trying to help remedy the supply chain when it comes to PPE and sanitizing products,” said Kelly Gonzalez, Jr., Kelmerica CEO. “Not to mention, we are helping our neighbors, friends and the families that work, support or are undergoing treatment at the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.”
Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital currently has 226 licensed beds, seven operating rooms, and an entire floor dedicated to pediatric oncology, all in a caring, compassionate setting designed specifically for children. Part of the Memorial Healthcare System, it is South Broward county’s only level one pediatric trauma center, combining advanced technology, the expertise of some of South Florida’s most diverse, board-certified specialists, and a patient and family-centered focus to heal the body, mind, and spirit of those it touches.
The nonprofit Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation provides philanthropic funding for programs, services, and facilities that support the children’s hospital’s mission.
Delivery of the donated materials occured on Thursday, May 12, 2020 at 12:00 pm.
